 Specific course information
Brief description  : This course will give knowledge on the public health condition related to the availability of clean water and wastewater management, outlines of water and wastewater treatment, gives insight to the basic design of water treatment required in the clean water supply syste, and domestic wastewater treatment that resulted from the used of clean water.
Prerequisite Courses : Open channel hydraulics (Semester IV)
Required/elective : Required
Studio work : N/A
Laboratory work : Field water sampling and laboratory testing for water quality
 Specific goals of the course
Specific outcomes :

The students are expected to understand the public health and environmental health related to the water availability condition, requirements for tap water quality and wastewater quality (quality standard for drinking water and wastewater); able to explaines types of water treatment; able to perform a basic design of waste water treatment; able ro explaine the sanitation system in accordance to the condition of an area, able to perform basic design of domestical waste water treatment.

Student outcomes :

(b) An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to have data analysis and interpretation

(c) An ability to design a system, component, or process in order to be able to face the real constraints in economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability

(e) An ability to identify, formulate, and solve civil engineering problems by considering local resources

Brief list of topics to be covered :
  1. Introduction to sanitation infrastructure (wastewater treatment)
  2. Characteristics (Quality and Quantity) of domestic Wastewater for planning / designing
  3. Type of process and stages of domestic wastewater treatment
  4. Domestic wastewater treatment technology
  5. Drinking water aspect,
  6. Water Treatment technique
