Specific course information
Brief description  :

This course contains the wastewater treatment by physical-chemical techniques, such as flocculation coagulation, neutralization, absorption. Review of wastewater treatment installation planning and design including influence factors of planning and design of wastewater treatment system and structure, and advanced design in preliminary treatment, primary treatment and secondary treatment for one area.

Prerequisite Courses : None
Required/elective : Elective
Studio work : N/A
Laboratory work : N/A
Specific goals of the course
Specific outcomes :

The students are expected to be able to plan and design collection system/network and wastewater treatment structure both individual and communal/central system and understand the consequence of technology selection and configuration of process units/flowsheet, and fundamentals of operation and maintenance.

Student outcomes :

(b) An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to have data analysis and interpretation

(c) An ability to design a system, component, or process in order to be able to face the real constraints in economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability

(e) An ability to identify, formulate, and solve civil engineering problems by considering local resources

Brief list of topics to be covered :
  1. Fundamentals of management (operation, maintenance, monitoring, evaluation, performance)
  2. Further wastewater treatment process: neutralization process
  3. Process of adsorption / absorption.
  4. Process of nutrients removal (nitrification / denitrification & phosphate removal)
  5. Ion exchange process
  6. Electrocoagulation process & stabilization of sludge & biogas
  7. Explanation of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) management review task & report presentation
  8. Introduction to operational, maintenance and performance review & field data collection
  9. Data collection on review of WWTP operations and maintenance
