Course code/credits and contact hours : TKS2105/2.5+0.5 (Laboratory work)
Semester : III
Instructor’s or course coordinator’s name : Prof. Ir. HRC. Priyosulistyo, M.Sc., Ph.D.
Bibliography :
  1. Megson, T.H.G., 2014, Structural and Stress Analysis Third Edition, Butterwort & Heinemann
  2. Hibbeler, R.C., 2012, Structural Analysis 8thEdition., Prentice Hall Int., Inc.
Specific course information
Brief description  : This course contains:

  1. Internal forces in determinate static beam structure and drawing of SFD, NFD, BMD, and TMD diagrams; due to various types/shapes of load (including indirect loads).
  2. Determinate static truss structure: definition, assumption, structural analysis with method: Joint, graphic/Cremona, Section, deformation analysis with graphical and analytical methods.
  3. Analysis and drawing of influence line for determinate static structure (beam, frame and truss), including indirect loads.
  4. Scope of indeterminate static structure including: simple beam, cantilever beam, cantilever beam in 3D space, simple beam with cantilever, gerber beam, simple frame/arch, truss structure; 3-hinged frame and arch; simple cable structure.
Prerequisite Courses : Physics for Civil Engineering (Semester II)
Required/elective : Required
Studio work : N/A
Laboratory work : Students to conduct test and demo of determinate static structure model based on stability concept (simple beam, cantilever, gerber, including influence line). Students create truss analysis and maximum forces occur using influence line.
Specific goals of the course
Specific outcomes : The students are expected to understand the basic concepts of the role of the analysis of the static structure specified in the design of building civil engineering, the idealization of the structure and the load on the field into a mathematical model, understand the concept of balance to calculate the support reactions and internal forces in a structure certain static.
Student outcomes : An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering in civil engineering fields.
Brief list of topics to be covered :
  1. Introduction to statics
  2. Simple beam
  3. Cantilever structure and simple beam with cantilever
  4. Gerber beam (compound beam)
  5. Beams with torque and indirect loads
  6. Simple portals and arches (rolling joints)
  7. Influence lines
  8. Structure of portals and 3 joints curves
  9. Structure of truss
  10. Analysis of simple cable structure.
