Specific course information
Brief description  :

This course contains the sedimentation problem, properties of water and sediment, particle fall speed, initial movement of sediment particle, transport mechanism and base configuration, base sediment transport (bed load), suspension sediment transport (suspended load), riverbed degradation and aggradation, stable channel design, debris flow, sediment transport in estuary, dam sedimentation.

Specific goals of the course
Specific outcomes :

The students are expected to be able to understand the hydraulics of sediment transport and its application in technical design of civil engineering structure.

Student outcomes :

(a) An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering in civil engineering fields

(b) An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to have data analysis and interpretation

  1. The scope of sediment transport problems
  2. Characteristics of flow and grain flow and sediment, volume weight, viscosity, flow type, hydraulic slipper and coarse, velocity formula, shear stress, flow resistance
  3. Characteristic of sediment grain size, grain shape, mass density, sedimentary velocity
  4. Beginning of sediment grain movement
  5. The basic transport / configuration mechanism
  6. Basic load sediment transportation (bed load)
  7. Suspended load sediment transport
  8. Degradation and aggression of river basin
  9. Sediment reservoir
  10. Land erosion
  11. Sediment transport in estuary
