Specific course information
Brief description  : This course contains the concept of soil shear strength and direct shear test, triaxial, unconfines compression test, and vane shear test, stress distribution, building settlement, consolidation settelement speed, effect of implementation time, consolidation acceleration using vertical drain, and slope stability.
Prerequisite Courses :
  1. Introduction to Geology and Geotechnics (Semester II)
  2. Soil Mechanics I (Semester III)
Required/elective : Required
Studio work : N/A
Laboratory work : Shear strength test (direct shear, unconfined compression, triaxial), consolidation test.
Specific goals of the course
Specific outcomes : The students are expected to be able to calculate stress distribution in soil, consolidation theory, settlement and safety factor of slope stabilization.
Student outcomes : (a) An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering in civil engineering fields

(b) An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to have data analysis and interpretation

(c) An ability to design a system, component, or process in order to be able to face the real constraints in economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
