Sanitary Engineering Laboratory
HEAD of LABORATORY
INTAN SUPRABA, Ph.D.
Sanitary and Environmental Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering was established in 1970 as a laboratory that provides services to solve problems of water supply and the provision of eligible sanitation facilities.
In general, the mission of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering Laboratory is to prepare students to be able to provide solutions to environmental problems, such as sanitation and drinking water supply, treatment and wastewater disposal. Expertise in this field includes techniques of drinking water supply and waste water treatment systems, water pollution control and monitoring, water and wastewater treatment, wastewater reuse and ways to improve environmental quality. The processing technology is applied for drinking water and wastewater generated from domestic waste and industrial waste.
Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Laboratory consists of Indoor and Outdoor Laboratory. Both are equipped with the technical and practical facilities to support teaching and training. Laboratories can be used to test water and wastewater qualities, covering physical parameters and some chemical parameters.
The laboratory is also equipped with some water and wastewater processing installation examples in laboratory scale.
Indoor Laboratory is used for studies and Final Assignment (Undergraduate), Thesis (Post-Graduate) purposes, and helping researches projects. This laboratory is also equipped with modern equipment such as Atomic Absorption Spectrometer which used to measuring dissolved metal level in water, Rotary Vacuum Evaporator to water concentration process, and some water processor installation models. Indoor Laboratory is located at Civil and Environmental Engineering Department Campus Faculty of Engineering UGM, Jl. Grafika No. 2 Yogyakarta 55281.
Outdoor Laboratory is used for field scale researches, which covers water processor installation using open channel system and appropriate building technologies called “Tripikon-S” for treating domestic waste. The outdoor laboratory is located at Kampung Kuningan area which still in UGM Campus area (behind the Wisma MM UGM).
