The world has now entered the fourth industrial revolution with emphasis on digital economy, artificial intelligence, big data, robotic, and other information system that experiences disruption. These technology advancements have made human activities to get more practical, faster, and easier. But technology disruption also poses challenges to university graduates due to the numerous jobs that were lost and replaced by machines.
“This issue becomes a challenge for us because currently jobs that are occupied by workers, bankers, and lecturers, may soon be transforming into something else,” said Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., to 1,648 graduates of UGM in Grha Sabha Pramana on Wednesday (21/2).

The event was held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 to present the business plan from the Undergraduate students. International Symposium of Transportation: The 20th FSTPT and The 1ST ISTSDC Joint Symposium 2017
The symposium organized competition between undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students. There were 316 papers in the field of transportation from all universities in Indonesia. UGM students became the winner in the transportation race.

On November 8, 2017, Delegates from the Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM) visited the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, welcomed by the Secretary of the Department, Ali Awaludin, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D. Dr. Ir. Zuhairi Abd. Hamid, as the leader of the Group, led the discussion about research on “Flood and Landslide Hazard Assessment for Critical Infrastructure for Specific Areas in Malaysia” and “Development of Sustainable Vulnerability Index for Critical Infrastructure for Specified Areas in Malaysia”. The event was also attended by Academic Staffs of the Department in the related fields.
On November 7, 2017, Delegation from National Central University (NCU) Taiwan visited Universitas Gadjah Mada as part of their tour in Indonesia. The delegation was first visited the Office of International Affairs UGM. Furthermore, the group that consisted of 17 people was divided into several groups, according to their expertise / research interests and visited the relevant Faculty / Department, as one of them went to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering UGM.
